It should go without dispute that the devil very much enjoys, and will always utilize to the fullest extent, the freedom granted him through shadow. God, Himself, has said, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” (Hosea 4:6) For, in lack of knowledge, the light of truth is absent, and where light is not, a shadow is cast.
It is from within these shadows of our ignorance that the enemy’s demonic minions are free to lightly whisper convincing lies, and since we don’t yet know any better, we are easily tempted into accepting these lies as truth and acting on them. Every day, we are used as unwitting servants of the devil, oblivious agents acting solely for the sake of the kingdom of darkness. (For an example of this in action, see the previous blog post.) Is anyone else infuriated by this?
These whispered lies are always specifically tailored to serve the enemy’s agenda; to steal peace and joy; to cause dissension and strife; to crush spirits and kill relationships; to cause pain, suffering and misery; to create cracks, tears and cuts through which he can then attempt to gain a new foothold; and even worse, to convince us to give ourselves over to demons, thus giving them legal right to permanently indwell us.
(For example: A child is verbally abused by parents living in darkness. A crack is formed. Demons then whisper lies designed to exploit that crack. The devil gains a foothold. New lies are whispered now pushing that child to begin cutting themselves or to bully other children or worse. Without the light, that child may also grow up to become a verbally abusive parent living in darkness. …and on, and on. The devil’s playbook never changes.)
In faith, I have asked Jesus for His wisdom. I have asked that He would open my eyes to the truth, even the ugly truth about myself and my own behavior. For He, Himself, is Truth, and without Him as my lamp, I am blinded by my own ignorance and sin, easily deceived and of use to the enemy.
My soul asked for His truth in earnest long ago because without knowing the truth, I felt like I was floating, ungrounded, with no firm path beneath my feet, and I found such a feeling to be extremely unsettling. For that reason, the truth has long been of vital importance to me. I feel a perpetual burning desire to live in His “light of truth”, for I would be lost without it.
Since then, although I have stood in His light for my own sake, from this position, my eyes can also see the shadows surrounding others who still live in darkness, and I have long felt the strong desire to warn them of the cost of their ignorance. I have even attempted many times to use a mirror to reflect the very light I’m standing in onto the shadows nearest them for their sake; to offer helpful truths of God to those I care about, thus exposing the work of the enemy by revealing the creepy nearness of his minions …but, alas, to no avail.
From my many disappointing attempts I have come to the conclusion that people who are not seeking the truth will reject it when it is offered, and even loved ones will attack the one offering it. This must be what Jesus meant when He said, “Don’t throw your pearls to pigs! They will trample the pearls, then turn and attack you.” (Matthew 7:6)
Still… It feels awful to just stand by and watch the devil have his way with them.
